When they work, then you "roll-out" your promotion to the large and proven marketplace. And more importantly, when they don't work, then you learn what you can! Find another idea and test it again.

your most valuable business asset
The only way to fail is to decide to quit and fail.
Too bad school and work don't work like that too.
You start out with what's simple and most natural in your circumstances. Then you grown and nurture your activity until it becomes profitable.
"The A List" is a phrase meaning the best of it's kind.
The more business experience you develop the more segments you will have in Your A List. The larger your A List the bigger your business can potentially be.
Everyone has many people to begin with:
A list of friends
A list of family
A list of co-workers
A Christmas Card list
A list of classmates
A list of people you see every day
A list of people you see weekly
A list of people you see monthly
A list of people you see yearly
A list of the people who excite you.
A list of the people who know more about this than you do.
With a new promotion you can test it best with Your Most Appropriate List:
customers who got something like this from you before.
customers who got something else from you before.
customers who got something like this from somebody else.
everybody else is just a suspect, not a real prospect.
You may have to contact a lot of suspects to build Your A List.
When your test works on a particular list, think about why it worked and try to find another list that would also be interested in that same benefit.

How To do a business
The "3 foot rule" is used by a motivated salesman when he decides he will share his story with everyone who gets within three feet of him.
You do not have to do that -- but you should not waste your time by ignoring an obvious opportunity. If you can do this sort of thing creatively, you are sure to succeed. Here's how to get started:
You need a story or something to share. Something that benefits others. Sure we are in business to make money. But your actions with others must benefit them or your efforts won't even be worth their time.
Build your story.
Learn your story.
Improve your story.
Share your story!

1) Do you have a mouth? Keep smiling and use it.
2) Various cards can be used like a Business Card to pass along a reminder of you or a free classified ad.
3) Notes, door hangers and fliers can share a simple story and be distributed widely.
4) Cards, notes and posters can be posted in public places with little printing costs.
5) Even simple signs can be easily constructed and may be legally posted in some areas near you.
Every form of advertising can be done for free. One of my friends created his own TV program. He got friends to tape his interview show. The people interviewed paid for the exposure and covered his costs. The TV station played it during free time as a public service. Many folks use this method on Radio shows. You can also use cd's, cassettes, videos, the Internet or whatever your interests can be shared like this for FREE.
All of these methods work! Someone uses each of these methods as their only advertising expense. I recommend you work up to using them all -- such as you can and when it's handy. How well they work for you only depends on how much you concentrate on them. Do everything you can with all that you've got.

The main thing to go by is What Are They?
Is this list targeting my prospects?
My list is all experienced and successful MLMers.
People who have actually achieved success or worked the business. Not just customers on a genealogy.
My list is not the Cheapest -- it is exclusive and expensive compared to the others.
My list is the biggest of it's kind. But many other kinds of lists are bigger of course. More people have been customers than successful distributors. More people have inquired about mlm than have ever signed up. Even more people are inquiring about making money any way that they can.
My list is not the newest although we keep it clean and add to it daily. It is also updated quarterly with the postal service change of address services. My names are not just curious ad inquirers, or studious book buyers.
My list is the most proven, depending on "what the meaning of is" is -- please excuse the pun. My list is the most proven to me. And, I have tested all the others. But, your most proven list will be your own list.
My list is not the most popular or the most advertised or the most used list. Those lists are widely sold and the most visible but the most over used names.
I think of my list as the only one of it's kind -- because I know so much detail about it.
There used to be two other comparable lists on the market -- but no more. Both of those companies traded me their names and went out of the list business. And that's why I ended up as the biggest.

Where does the list come from?
Most mailing list brokers get their lists through mailing list owners. Some owners simply manage huge databases of information for tens of millions of consumers and businesses. These "compiled list" databases are populated with information collected from various sources such as telephone directories, credit bureaus, and annual reports.
Other mailing list owners have more targeted databases containing detailed information from people who have either inquired about a particular product or service, or permitted companies to contact them. These "response lists" can range from people who subscribe to a specific magazine to people who have completed and returned their product warranty card.
How fresh is the list?
While brokers can't guarantee how much business a mailing list will generate, the "deliverability" - the percentage of names that actually reach their intended recipient - is crucial. List owners constantly add new data and prune outdated information to keep their lists accurate. The industry standard for deliverability is roughly 92 percent.

An "expired" list may be cheap to buy, but may cost your company more in the long run with poor response rates. Do a thorough review of mailing list details before choosing any one.
Run a test mailing.
Sending multiple versions of your mailing to different subsets of the list, looking at the results, then sending the most effective version to the rest of the list.
Plan ahead.
If you're expecting to purchase a mailing list, have a plan of action in place before you get it. If you have the general makeup for the deliverables, your timeline, and your delivery method, you'll be well prepared to put the list to work for you immediately.
Don't cheat.
Only use the list as much as you and the broker agreed to. Brokers monitor how many times a list is used by including "seeds" - fake names that go to a real address controlled by a mail monitoring service.
Heads up!
Avoid e-mail lists that use "gibberish" characters or trick IP addresses to circumvent spam filters. Legit opt-in lists don't need to resort to such tactics.
Hiring temporary workers and family members
What is your time worth? As your business grows your time becomes more valuable. At some point you will need to consider leveraging your time by "hiring" folks in various ways.
One simple way to get started is with family and children. There are tax advantages of spreading your income around like this. Simply be honest and evaluate what you can afford to trade your time for to pay them. Also consider the consequences of Children in the Home Business Environment.
